    bonsai kittens

Hi. i recently discovered an absoluely appalling asian company that specialise in creating these ornaments called bonsai kittens. the process involves growing kittens in glass/plastic bottles so their bodies take on the shape of the recepticle they are in. the soft skeletons of the kittens resemble the bottles making apparently beautiful living decorative objects (eh?). its called animal body modification. i cant quite comprehend humans some times. nyway, i feel it is my duty to report this disgusting and heartbreaking buisness - the website is horrific- loads of people think this is fantastic. what shall we do about it?

This has been going around for so many years I can not believe this is still being spread. It is just a joke. A sick joke, but really, don't pass this on, it's been so many years being spread that I must get 2-5 emails about this a week.

IT IS NOT TRUE. It doesn't even make sense if you really think about it.

I emailed the WSPA not that long ago regarding that and they sent me an email back, this is what it said...

    Dear Elesha,

    Thank you for your email,

We have received an enormous amount of calls, letters and emails about this website www.bonsaikitten.com since it first went up more than three years ago.

It appears that this site, which purports to shape animals by putting them in little glass jars, is the product of a sick imagination. Designed by a Massachussets Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) student as a joke albeit a distasteful one, the site has generated a storm of controversy on the web with people circulating petitions, newspaper articles being written and mirror sites popping up all over as individuals rush to defend the author's write to free speech.

The site's author is claiming that the images on the site are computer generated and that no animals were actually harmed. This has been borne out by a Massachussetts SPCA investigation which found no evidence of actual animal abuse.

Two U.S. based organizations, the Humane Society of the United States and In Defense of Animals also spend time looking in to this website to ascertain whether or not any animals have been harmed. Both organizations sought to have the website closed down to no avail. The owner of the site simply moved to a new host everytime. Sadly, the site has a number of "fans" and mirror sites have begun to spring up here and there as well. This makes it very unlikely that anyone will be able to stop the site.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation even weighed in and was apparently investigating whether a new U.S. law could be used to prosecute the owner of the site. The law makes it an offence to produce a depiction of animal cruelty for distribution across state lines. Constitutional guarantees of free speech and the author's insistence that the site was a joke make it unlikely that any such charges will result.

Our advise is to treat this story as a hoax and ignore it. Please do not forward any email or petitions. It may never go away. Expending any energy on this at all is a mere waste of time. Moreover, it gives the site's author the sick thrill of offending animal lovers which is exactly what he was looking for in the first place.

Thank you again for contacting us on this highly offensive website. If you have any other concerns, or if I have not answer any part of your query, please let me know.

    Best Regards,

But definitly not something to laugh over. The site purpetuates animal abuse, really it should be shut down, but then again there are a few movies out there that should have been banded becuase of the abuse in them as well. So lets not laugh over and just ignore the sites, the more attention they get the happier they are.

There is a sight called "snoobes" and when ever in doubt of something, just go there. It has the answers to just about anything, like the bonsai cat thing (which is false).

I think it is something like www.snoobes.com
