Ferrets are great pets. I had them for years.
What specific questions did you have?

Try to rescue one from a rescue rather than buying one from a pet shop!

Here is some info for you.

Well ive been looking around for a cage and saw a HUGE 4 story cage, yet in all the books i read the "perfect" cage was pretty small, and also can i take my ferret to Petsmart or w/e with me or will it be to stressful and if yes, how often do they go to the bathroom

    Sheka and the gang

(ps- i have a bird , i dont need them to be "friends" but can they live in the same house without alot of stress?, and..there arent alot of ferret Ppl here lol)

Whatever you do, do NOT buy your ferret from a petstore like PetSmart or PetCo or PetLand or any other place that sells them. 99.9% of stores that sell small animals like this get them from pet mills and back yard breeders. Buying a pet from them only sends them the message that there is a market for these animals, so they go back out to the mills and ask for more. I won't even buy items like bowls or toys from these stores until they stop the sale of live animals.
(Personally, I am disgusted that they've all stopped the sale of "normal" pets like dogs and cats, but still see no problem with selling small animals. They see small animals as 'disposable'. Ugh, it infuriates me to no end!) [off my soapbox now]

Anyway, as I posted in my Rescue and Adoption post in the rescue thread, most petstore employees know nothing about the animals that they sell, and are notorious for giving bad information.
Go to a site like and do a search for a ferret rescue in your area. I'll try and look up some ferret info sites and ferret specific rescues for you.

Oh, and you can buy any ferret supply imaginable from
I actually buy a lot of guinea pig stuff from them, and they're great.

The larger cage is MUCh better!
I used to have a three story cage - the bigger the better. Don't use a fish tank. Some people try to use a fish tank for their ferrets and that is a big no-no!

Thx for your help i bought all the supplies at this ferret supply store downtown that doesnt sell ferrets. the owner has an adorable albino ferret he brings to work and he let me play with her to see how it is to own a ferret, i bought all the supplies but im gonna shop around for a perfect fuzzy friend. Its SOOO hard not to fall in love with the 1st one you see. Im visiting a ferret rescue tommorow they say they have a sable ferret that would be perfect for me! Ill cant wait to see him! . After all my reading and stuff i went back to petco took one look at the ferrets and i knew that something was wrong, i visited evrey 3 hours and not once where the ferrets playing or even leaving the corner they where sleeping in, ill deal with petco later but for now thanks for all the help
