Well, whatever it was I found it dead in the driveway a few days ago. No more BBQ for you!

From the images I've been able to find of animals in my area (southern Colorado Rockies) this appears to be an American Pika. But from what I've read Pika have no visible tail. As seen poking out from under its chin this has a fluffy tail. If not a Pika, what could it be? Is it just some kind of rat (don't rats have an almost fur-less tail?)?
Thanks in advance...

Oh no jamesjr934!I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you identify what the little guy was, I've got no experience with animals in your area.
Hi There, how are you?
I run a blog aimed at helping pet owners learn about their pets. It's only small at the moment, but the content is honest, well researched and hopefully informative. If you are interested in visiting it, please do. I would love to hear your feedback.

Honestly I think it's a gerbil or a kangaroo rat, looks more like a chunky gerbil though.... Could also be a degu, if it is, it's an odd coloured one
