    Microchips causing cancer?

    Considering how many animals every day are being microchipped, I'm not so sure this is true.

    Re: Microchips causing cancer?

    FF, you and I both live in Europe, where I am not aware of any health problems with microchips. Extremely rarely, the microchips can travel in the body and get "lost" (a vet told me that), but I have never ever heard of cancer being caused by a microchip in a pet in Europe. However, in the USA there do seem to be very, very rare cases of tumours. See http://www.briarcliffanimal.com/2011...ut-microchips/

    Such cases are so extremely rare that I would have thought that the benefits outweigh the minuscule risk.

    @Paw Campus I don't think it's true.

    And I agree with LCP, the benefits outweigh the micro risk

    Re: Microchips causing cancer?

    My feelings about microchips are that they are more than helpful if an animal gets lost. Lost animals CAN be returned home within hours or a day or two....instead of never coming home and being at best, adopted by someone else.

    But, my instincts about microchips are not 100% positive. It is a foreign object in the body. The body is not really designed to have a foreign object injected under the skin. Maybe in some cases it could cause a reaction.

    But to contradict myself here (lol!)....I, for instance have a number of foreign objects in my mouth! (two crowns and some fillings) and as far as I know they aren't doing me any damage.

    Yet my feeling is the statistics haven't been examined properly. And it is likely that the many millions of animals who do NOT have a reaction outweigh those who do.

    I find this website interesting as I am an advocate for natural methods of healing, herbal medicine, etc and almost always use natural remedies for myself with great results.
    But from a quick glance at other articles there, it seems the website is making great sweeping statements about certain things, which are open to many variables, and aren't necessarily so one hundred per cent.
