    Protect dogs against Lungworm

Lungworm in dogs is on the increase in the UK. It is a very dangerous parasite caught from slugs and snails which can cause a dog's death. A dog can accidentally eat a slug among grass, or on a dog toy left in the garden, or maybe drink one from an outside water source.
Fortunately lungworm is preventable. If caught in good time, it is also treatable. But it can be hard to distinguish the symptoms from other illnesses (such as kennel cough etc.)
This is a very informative video about it on You Tube:

Thank you posting this, Tobi. The link will be very useful. I had heard of the illness but did not know that it was spreading in the UK.

Yes it used to be found mainly in the south of England, but cases are now turning up in other areas.
Many people have not heard of it. I wasn't aware of it when Misty lived with me. She never showed any illness like this though. But quite a few cases have been reported (confirmed) in my local area.

I've never heard of lungworm. Is that something that dogs are in risk of here in NC? We have a lot of slugs. Never seen my dogs eat one but Que loves to bite at frogs. Originally kennel cough is what I thought Que might have but Vet wrote it off because Tea Cup has no symptoms and even though we never board them we take them to the dog park once a week.

I found this article which mentions there have been sporadic cases of Lungworm in America, but I cannot find anything which specifically mentions North Carolina (Which I'm assuming you are referring to Elena?). It is quite an old article though, so it may not be as relevant anymore. However, if you do have lots of frogs and slugs around then there is always some risk that it may be about. You could always make a note to talk to your veterinarian the next time you visit them. They will know what parasites are around the area which you live in. :) https://link.springer.com/article/10...436-003-1000-9
