All this talk of religion, but it's how you live your life that is the all-important thing.
If you set out each day to do all the goodness and kindness that you can, and to do no harm to man or beast, then you are walking the highest path.
And when your time is up, if you can leave the earth a better place than you found it, then yours will have been a life well lived.

That's a lovely read, thanks for that.
I seem to recall chefs boil them alive, is that practice still allowed these days?

As far as I know, boiling alive is the most common method. This is apparently still legal in most countries.
Alternatives do exist. See http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/fo...-kindness.html
I am not convinced by the title about "killing lobsters with kindness", as killing anything isn't exactly kind to the victim! A better expression would be "killing in a way which causes the least pain".
The best alternative is not to eat seafood at all, as almost all of it (especially crabs, prawns, shrimps) is boiled alive. I never, ever eat seafood myself.
The monks were trying to save these lobsters from a terrible fate. Who would want to be boiled alive?

Thank you for posting this, Knight.
I had a friend once (he passed away early 2011) He was a good friend for many years of both my husband and myself. Though many people disliked him as he was socially clumsy in some ways. But his heart was definitely in the right place! Once, after his mother passed away, and he received a small inheritance, he took himself to a very exclusive restaurant where the diners could pick out their own lobsters from a huge tank (to be boiled alive and freshly cooked for them!)
He bought up the whole tankful. He got them put in a box and drove them immediately to the sea (He lived in Jersey at the time) -and let them all go!
Bless his Soul.
What a wonderful story Tobi, I would have liked to shake his hand!
