    Bringing Your New Dog Home

Preparation and patience are key to building a happy relationship

The key to helping your new dog make a successful adjustment to your home is being prepared and being patient. It can take anywhere from two days to two months for you and your pet to adjust to each other.

Re: Bringing Your New Dog Home

That's so true, Leonil. We must be prepared, and give ourselves the time, to get to know our new family member! And vice-versa. There is nothing like quality one-to-one time with a new pet.

Patience and preparation are so important; so is the willingness to sacrifice a little 'me time'.

Preparation could be something like -learning basic puppy needs and behaviours, and how to start training before getting a new puppy. Or making sure the garden is well-fenced. Protecting furniture with throws or other things, and creating scratching-posts for new kittens....etc.

And patience....well I feel they come to us to help us learn how to be better people (among other reasons, like tasty food! lol) So we owe it to them to be in charge of our emotions and to give them our best.

If a dog's behaviour becomes irritating and tries a person's patience, then it's a good bet that the person has not yet learned how to do basic training.
