    Allergic reaction to animals

My wife's son can't be around cats or dogs due to some skin allergic reaction. However I am not sure about bunnies and rabbits. Would anyone know? Thanks..

That question cannot be answered without lots of information about the nature of the allergy and the results of the tests which established its existence. Was a RAST (radioallergosorbent test) carried out? That is the only way to be sure. So the best person to answer this question is the son's doctor or a skin specialist.

Treatment for such allergies is possible. See http://www.webmd.com/allergies/guide...lergies?page=2

    Best wishes to you.

Thank you so much. I know he can take drugs and is better, however he would not want to take drugs everyday and why my wife does not want a pet. However I wonder if there is a cure. I know my wife did not grow up with animals, nor much likes animals, and perhaps this may be a part of the problem, as she is already biased against them, and so may not want a cure or a solution. I however grew up with animals and love them. If we cannot get a cat/Dog, maybe we can get a Rat.

Thank you. I sent a reply to this post but for some reason it vanished. Anyways if we cannot get a cat/dog maybe we can get a rat. I am not sure on his exact allergy, but I do know my wife did not grow up with animals, and perhaps may be biased and so does not seek a cure for her son to be around animals. He could take pills, but he does not want to take one everyday, but I will look more into this. Thanks.

At the very least, I suggest you ask your wife whether a RAST test has been carried out.

This is a little off topic, but my allergies here in CA have been kicking up because of the intense heat waves this week! I hate it because I cannot snuggle as much with my kitties :( Their fur gets everywhere too due to their typical coat shedding this time of year. In any case, just one of the few reasons I prefer colder weather: closer moments with my babies ;)
