Support Sen. Harb's Bill to End the Seal Slaughter for Good!

Have you heard the great news?! Canadian Senator Mac Harb has introduced a historic bill to end Canada's annual commercial baby seal slaughter.

What does that mean? It means this is it! The time has come when a final bill's passing can break the seal slaughter and end it once and for all. Seals need your help more than ever.

For those of you who are wondering what the seal slaughter is read the following:

Each year, the Canadian government gives hunters the green light to bludgeon to death hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals. During the slaughter, baby seals are shot or repeatedly clubbed. Sealers bludgeon the animals with clubs and "hakapiks" (metal-hook–tipped clubs) and drag the seals—who are often still conscious—across the ice floes with boat hooks.

Hunters toss dead and dying seals into heaps and leave their carcasses to rot on the ice floes because there is no market for seal meat. Veterinarians who have investigated the slaughter have found that hunters routinely fail to comply with Canada's animal welfare standards.

Baby seals are helpless and have no way to escape from the sealers' clubs. A Washington Post article on the seal slaughter described it this way: "[A] seal appearing to gasp for air, blood running from its nose as it lies on an ice floe. Not far away, a sealer sharpens his knife blade. The seal seems to be thrashing as its fur is sliced from its torso."

So that's the seal slaughter.

1. View this list of Canadian senators, and find yours by searching for your province.
2. Once the results appear, copy the e-mail address of your senator and paste it into a new e-mail message.
3. Write a polite message asking your senator to support Sen. Mac Harb's bill to end the Canadian seal slaughter. Tell him or her that Sen. Harb's bill benefits all parties: seals, sealers, and Canadian taxpayers, who pay millions to prop up a dead industry when many people are struggling just to pay their bills.

Before i sign anything i would need references, to vets who can prove any animals are still conscious after the dispatch method was used. I need to see proof that the dispatch method is actually inhumane (brutal does not mean inhumane, after all you club an animal hard enough thats instant death)
If i remember correctly the seal slaughter is in place to manage the population in the most humane method, due to us removing the wild predators of the seal, therefore i would also need to see proof that the ban isnt going to impact the ecological system and end up with more, inhumane deaths (similar to what happened with rabbits in australia)
Yes i may not like cute fluffy seals being clubbed but that does not mean i should ban it....i need a clear picture from reviewed sources giving me proof as to the situation before i decide to make a law about it!
