Green water algae

Okay, need help!!!

I have water algae that kind of showed up over night. I have emptied most of the water out a couple times, I tried removing about 30% of water and putting in fresh every day for about two weeks, I bought algae cleaner for the water, put in another algae eater and some cat fish. But nothing has helped. I even bought some stuff that guaranteed to clear it up in two doses but it didn't help.

Any ideas??? I'm tempted to move my fish to another tank and empty the big tank completely, get new rocks and decorations and start over. It just looks nasty. You can hardly see the fish anymore.

Sorry I can't help you, but with my fish I clean their tank once a month, I remove the fish to another place, strain the stones in a strainer, clean my plants, but my plants are fake, and take apart my filter to clean it too. After all that I scrub my tank clean and replace the water and the fish to the tank. A lot of work, but it keeps my tank clean, espically since I don't have algie eaters.

Well it's doing pretty good right now. Someone suggested lowering the temp to 65, guess that's too cold for algae to grow quickly. I've been changing about 60% of the water twice a day for a few days now and NOT adding any water cleaner to balance everything since I started and the water is a lot more clear now than it was. I'm hoping my fish don't die with this but they've been pretty good so far. My water company said they flush the system every Monday so the chlorine levels will be higher that day. So I'll probably skip cleaning Monday. Hopefully it won't be bad.

My tank looked like that so I bought a product called, Algae Destroyer. And it cleared it up in about a day. Make sure to follow the directions carefully and make sure your filter is clean.

I had the same problem and I think it was from a rock or something I had put into the tank. washed and boiled them first. I got some chemicals from the shop and after a few days it got clearer but never really went away. opted for a clear out. Lucky I have two tanks. Seemed to have fixed the problem. I also bought a new filter and this is a great help. Keep your filter regularly cleaned.

I agree thet tanks are great, but they do not maintain themselves. I just bought four more goldfish and one died already and tank is cloudy again.

I had the same problem and once and what I do was I took all plants and logs out and put fishes in to another tank. I stain logs and my artificial plants and I took all the water in my tank out and cleaned tank with a sponge and also I cleaned the filter of the tank. After that I replace my tank to a shady place and now my tank look better and not growing green algae. So I prefer you to do these steps you might get a good result.

Moving it to a shady place (not too shady) and cleaning it more frequently should solve it, or you could use an algae remover as mentioned before but I don't think it's necessary. Perhaps the kind of plants or a stone in the tank as already mentioned is the culprit..
