Hello everyone...you may remember me from such films as....lol jk

I have been very busy with school and training my dogs...its insane!! Well im in for a good summer. Both my dogs are semi-trained and ill be on summer holidays...whew!! Things have gotten alot better since i was last on here. My girl, Zoey is well behaved now and is in tip top shape. She is fed a raw diet of pre-made patties I buy. They have all the goodies packed in them. Plus she eats carrots and apples. Valentine....Passed away. I'm not sure if i posted it on here or not. He died from Parvo. My dad only had his second set of shots and i guess it wasn't enough :(. RIP Valentine. We had a burial for him.
My BFs sister's, friend works for the SPCA and told us that they got a female in and 9 puppies. Guess what they were? ROTTIES!!! But they looked "labbish". so obviously these came from a BYBer. the tails were poorly docked and they looked all muddy when they first came in. We fostered two of them and picked one..a male...Valentine :mrgreen:

Valentine II is to be neutered at 24 months. The reason we want to wait is because we want him to fill out and mature first. Since Rotts mature ever so slowly we want him to be full grown first. We absolutely do not plan on breeding him as we do not believe in BYBing. Zoey is already Spayed, so there is no fear of "oops litters".

BTW Zoey is going to be 2 on the 20th of this month...yay!!!
Also another thing to brag about is...Im a foster momma!! I volunteer for the SPCA to take in any animals that need fostering! yay...

So great to see you again.
Why do you htink your dog will not fill out if you neuter him before two? He will grow the same...really and not neutering him will get him to marking and also his aggression level will be higher. If you get him early you can eliminate the chance of various cancers as well. Just some comments...either way, glad to see you here again.

I ree with Kerry, actually testostiron (sp?) will actually stunt the poor boys growth. He'll grow bigger if you have him nutured, and besides you don't want him to grow too fast, otherwise you'll end up with hip and elbow problems. Not that I'm trying to tell you what to do, but you will get a bigger dog if you nutur him earlier, six months or so. Great to have you back and sorry for your loss, your family is beautiful.

ValentineRott is probably concerned with the possible effects of early neutering on growth plates. I don't know much about it, but have read articles that say neutering before maturity can cause undesireable changes is growth plates and even a higher rate of yeast infections in females.

I have also read articles that say early spaying and neutering are absolutely safe for your dog.

Either way, welcome back ValentineRott. Sorry you lost your doggie.

lol, no it's not that i want him to get bigger it's just that i want him to mature first. My vet suggests that I wait and in the meantime he is under strict training. IF we must the earliest my vet suggests is when he is18 months. I just want him to grow properly and make sure his growth plates are done "growing" first because he will be a Shutz dog, and will be going through agility and possibly tracking...maybe. The reason i want to wait before i have him altered is i want him to have his Hips, elbows and maybe heart checked to make sure he is in perfect health to start intensifying his training. I just want him to be "whole" when I get him tested...then after he is "perfect" he will be neutered. My Vet has already everything scheduled from now till hes 2 years old.

My dad has had Pit Bulls before who he got neutered at 10 weeks old because it was a pet, not a breeding dog. By the age of 1 the dog still lifted his leg to pee. It also happens if there are alot of other males around, it is mostly a learned behavior. i.e if the dog sees another male doing it then he will start learning to "mark his territory"
But there are still chances the male will pick up on scents and feel the need to mark. Whether he is neutered or not, he will still pee and pee will kill grass, shrubs etc.

Just so everyone knows, Valentine II is 7 months right now and growing ever so slowly...at the perfect rate. He's 65Lbs and 22 inches at the shoulder, perfect and proportionate for his age and build.

shutzhund? really? are you sure?

a shutzhund trained dog is a specialist in protection. he will be taught how to bite to bring someone down - even how to scan through crowds to pick out a stalker!! do you need that sort of protection? i think even a playful bark from a rottie is enough to put off a thief or thug.

Hey there! Welcome back...and sorry to hear about your loss. RIP Valentine. :(

I have Danes and I don't nueter early either. For example Brutus's litter mate was nuetered at 6 1/2 months old...he has a VERY femine look about him and though he is almost the same height as Brutus his overall appearance is very "bitchy" Brutus though is filling out quite nicely and had a great "doggy" head on him as does his other brother who isn't nuetered yet. Brutus just turned a year old on Feb 28th and he will not be getting nuetered until 18 months old..also when he will get his gastroplexy done.

Of course...Brutus's litter mate is not definate proof that early nuetering in giant breeds will cause a lack of masuclinity in males because his brother could just be the odd ball of the litter (though doubtful IMO as all the pups from the litter have great breed type and he comes from a line that produces consistant results) but I have seen way too many Danes that were nuetered early that have the femine look and bitchy heads, so I personally do not and will not ever alter them before 18 months.

You mentioned a Raw pattie you feed? If you don't mind could you share the name of it? I'm a RAW feeder (though I don't feed anything pre-made) and I have been looking around for a raw pattie or some equivilant to send with Blue when he goes and stays with my Dad for a few days. My dad and step mom don't feed RAW so I don't wanna pack Blue's cooler of meats to their house and stuff it in their freezer. lol Do these patties have any vegetable material or grains??

The name of the food is Horizon. It has all essential veggies and nutrients added in. For a dane i think you would have to feed him ALOT more than i feed Zoey. Each patty is 1 Pound.

Ingredients:

(Pork, Chicken(chicken necks) , beef (beef heart, beef liver, beef kidney) -not all mixed into one, but three sepereate kinds of patties) All three types include: eggs, carrots, apples ,broccoli, , bok choy, cabbage, cranberries, canola oil, dried alfalfa, milled flax, flax oil, apple cider vinegar, kelp meal, garlic.

I'm not sure if this is available anywhere else but my Province (Saskatchewan Canada) But i can see if they ship to USA or other provinces if you want? Then i'll give you their contacts.
