Toy breeds: Toy Manchester Terrier
Origin
This terrier, also called the Black and Tan Terrier, has been a rat killer with extraordinary abilities since the 1500s. A Manchester Terrier named Billy took 6 minutes and 13 seconds to kill 100 rats in a contest held during the late 1800s. Whippet, Greyhound and Italian Greyhound are all parts of the Manchester's ancestry. The smaller dogs of this breed were used to form the Toy variety of this breed.
General description

Von Willebrand's disease is found occasionally in this breed.
Breed characteristics and personality
Manchesters are extremely intelligent, affectionate, and have excellent dispositions. They will live comfortably in a trailer to a house. They are very friendly and easily accepted in the family. They are perfect watchdogs but are not annoying yappers. They mix well with other breeds and are great with children. Toy Manchesters are the perfect small dog, happy, lively, very companionable, and excellent bed-warmers. Their longevity amazes most people because they stay active, playful, and alert well into their teens.
Uses
The Manchester Terrier was used for rat killing and rabbit coursing in earlier times. Today, the Manchester makes an excellent companion for every household. Being highly intelligent, they are a great choice for obedience degree training.
