Terrier breeds: Norwich Terrier
Origin
Originating in the 1800s, it was the mascot of students at Cambridge University in England. It is one of the terrier breeds native to Norfolk, England. This breed and the Norfolk were recognized as one breed in America until 1979 when the set of the ears split the breeds into two separate breeds.
General description
Height: 10 inches
Weight: 11-12 pounds
Color: Red, black and tan, wheaten or grizzle (black, red and white mix) color.
Grooming requirements
This dog has a coarse coat, and if maintained weekly, the coat will not become matted. Most find it easier to have these dogs professionally groomed every 6-8 weeks, rather than giving them the haircut they require at home.
Health considerations
This breed is prone to Von Willebrand's disease and eye problems.
Breed characteristics and personality
This little dog makes a good companion and a fine watchdog. It is feisty and active but can live well in an apartment.
Uses
The Norwich, like the Norfolk, was a ratter, but today enjoys the spoils of being a companion dog and friend.
