Terrier breeds: Bull Terrier
Origin
This breed, a cross between the Old English Terrier and the Bulldog, was created in Great Britain in the 1800s. It is also called the English Bull Terrier. There are two types of Bull Terriers: White and Colored. The two distinct versions were voted on in 1936.
General description
Height: 15-19 inches
Weight: 52-62 pounds
Color: White with minimal markings permitted on the head; colored can be any color with white markings, but brindle is preferred.
Grooming requirements
This dog's coat is very easy to maintain and requires little brushing.
Health considerations
This breed is prone to eye, joint and inguinal hernias.
Breed characteristics and personality
The Bull Terrier makes a good watchdog and a loyal pet. This breed is gentle and good with children. However this breed has been shown to be aggressive toward other dogs and needs a firm hand of guidance. This breed also needs a lot of exercise.
Uses
The Bull Terrier has always been a gentleman's dog. He makes a great companion and a good watchdog.
