Miscellaneous breeds: Anatolian Shepherd
Origin
The Anatolian Shepherd, also known as the Anatolian Kabash Dog, was bred from the best guard dogs in Asia Minor. They were originally produced in Turkey. As you can see from their distinct coloring and head shape, they came from Mastiff lines. Traditionally, a dog who has downed a wolf would wear a spiked collar as a sign of the dog's abilities.

Grooming requirements
The Anatolian Shepherd is a wash-and-go dog. They require an average amount of brushing, but due to their size they are a significant dog to bathe. Teach your Anatolian the joys of bathing early to avoid a struggle later on.
Breed characteristics and personality
Aware, sharp, steady, always watching, and instinctively protective, he is gallant and very versatile. He is very devoted and amenable. A very territorial dog, he is a natural guard.
Uses
This breed was used to hunt large game such as lions and wolves, and as a gladiator. In Turkey the breed is still used to protect flocks.
