Grooming requirements
    The Bearded Collie requires daily brushing to avoid matting. You will need to use a slicker brush and a metal comb to keep this dog mat-free. Common problem areas for matting are behind the ears, the bib, neck and hind quarters. Be sure to comb under the arms as well, as this is a common trouble spot for matting. Other general care required includes ear cleaning and nail trimming.

Health considerations
    Food allergies, hip dysplasia, and sound sensitivity can occasionally be found in this breed.

Breed characteristics and personality
    The Beardie is easily trainable. He is good with children, strangers, and other animals. Beardies are playful and like games such as ball or Frisbee, and they want constant attention. Don't get a Beardie if you can't spend time each day to play, walk/run or give them your undivided attention. They are not the kind of dog you leave home alone for very long. They want to go on walks or play for hours. They are great company for children or even older people who want a constant companion. The Beardie accepts love and provides it in return. They are full of hugs and kisses.

Uses
    Even today you can find them as Highland herding dogs. Beardies are seen competing in Obedience, Herding, Tracking, or Agility. When given a job, the Beardie makes an excellent companion dog.
