Animals and Depression

Hi, I'm researching animal phycology for my Extended Project ,which is a GCSE(General Certificate of Secondary Education) course in Britain taken when the students are 14-16. I have chosen to answer a question of my choice: "Can animals get depression and if so, how does it affect them?" So my question is, do you think that animals can get depression just like humans can, or would us thinking that just be anthropomrophism? Also, if they can't get depression(as in the illness) can they become depressed(as in the feeling). If animals can become depressed, which type of animlas do you think could feel such emotions? Could domestic animals who are very close to their owners get depression if their owner died? Or would that be anthropomorphism? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! :)
