Please take a quick moment to click on the link below and add your cyber presence to the Virtual Candlelight Vigil for slaughtered horses. Although the International Fund for Horses is U.S.-based, the cruel mass slaughter of these exquisite animals is a sad fact in other countries as well, including Canada, and this effort welcomes international support. We can all work together to end equine slaughter throughout the world. Spread the word!

-----------------------------------------------

On December 8, 2004, President Bush signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2005, which has now become Public Law No: 108-447. Although a final copy of this bill is not yet available, it is being reported that the Burns Amendment (Section 142) remained in the bill, meaning that thousands of our wild horses are now at risk of being bought or sold for slaughter. Plans are already in place to have the amendment repealed when the 109th Congress convenes on January 4, 2005.

The President was expected to sign S. Res. 452 proclaiming Monday, December 13, 2004 as the National Day of the Horse. Athough it is highly like that he did, we can find no record or report that he has.

VIRTUAL CANDELIGHT VIGIL

Plans were in the development stages to hold a candlelight vigil at the Las Colinas Plaza, Texas, in front of the beautiful water feature and larger than life bronze sculptures of wild mustangs on December 13th, only miles away from the two slaughterhouses in North Texas. Then the horrible news broke about the Burns Amendment and virtually everything came to a standstill while we all worked hard to have it removed.

So, in memory of all the horses that have suffered and died gruesome deaths in slaughterhouses, we have created a Virtual Candlelight Vigil in their honor.

When you visit the page, you will see a form where you can list your name, where you are from, and post your comments. It will automatically light a perpetual candle for you and place your entry in the vigil list. This will be an ongoing tribute to our fallen horses that we never intend to remove.
