Went to do my horses yesterday 6 am and my sister's 27 year old thoroughbred was lying down, covered in sweat and bleeding from the nose. My sister had moved to France 3 months ago and we felt the journey was too long, 18 hours, for Sherie to make so she joined my 2 horses, a Shetland mare and a young Arab gelding, for her retirement, loads of grass, hay and three feeds a day! My young Arab absolutley adored her and became a toyboy (Sherie was not the prettiest girl, having one eye and being quite thin but she blossomed and followed him everywhere!) To cut a long story short, the vet came out immediately and after talking to my sisters husband in France, we decided Sherie should be put to sleep. I whispered in her ear about Rainbow Bridge and the old friends she would soon be meeting and gave her a Polo. We miss you Sherie. XXX

It sounds like her last days of her life were happy, though. I am sorry for your loss. Take care.

I'm sorry for your loss, I know that feeling, and almost those exact symptoms, my own horse showed the same ones before he died. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

This is so sad.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
Thanks, on her behalf, for being so wonderful to her and taking care to think about HER needs....

Much affection...

Kerry

Thank you for your kind replies. Sherie would have struggled through winter as so difficult to keep weight on her so in a way I feel happy for her. A good cry and your forum has helped. X
