Looks like a nice habitat. I've been thinking of getting my friend some of these one day to keep her company at her dorm.

Just make sure she is willing to take care of them. They take a lot more work then most people realize.

Just depends on how well you take care of them. There are some people on the crab forum that have crabs that are baseball size! I'm guessing but I think it would take at least 5 yrs for mine to get that big. Mine are quarter size. I'm not sure of the life expectancy.. I'll have to ask! lol. It does matter a lot how well you take care of them. They have to have a certain humidity level, salt and fresh water and of course a little luck when it comes to molting.. Lots of things can go wrong unfortunately.

Ok I asked. This is their answer..

I have read that they usually live 5 years or so in captivity, but some have had them live for 20+ years! I think in the wild they sometimes live to be 50?

Hm...In Austria haven't any people crabs. Are crabs in America or England poplular pets?

no not really popular. There are people all over the world that keep them as pets but were considered "weird"...

They are more popular around their natural habitat. Such as Florida.
